There are a couple of other considerations although not related to strategy per se but has an impact on the formation and sustenance pioneering firms. Serendipity (and god forbid its antagonistic cousin Bahramdipity)is as relevant as ever in translating (or not) a chance observation into a commercially viable product. One perennial question - How can organizations systematically 'find' the Charles Goodyear or Arthur Fry (of rubber and post-it fame, respectively) and help them succeed? Secondly, imperfect valuation models will continue to imperil funding avenues thereby diminishing success rates for pioneers.
